The networked, smart home is one of the top themes of the IFA. In addition to established manufacturers, there are numerous startups who make a lot of effort with new solutions. Here is a small overview of interesting newcomers.

Since 2016, the IFA has offered a special exhibition area on the subject of "Smart Home". More than 70 exhibitors from 16 countries presented their solutions for a networked home at IFA. The exhibition area Smart Home had a total of 3,000 square meters. But which solutions should be looked at more closely? Which ones are attractive as an extension of the networked home portfolio, and what products and services will most customers find?

From the current surveys criteria for smart home solutions can be derived, which particularly correspond to the customer's wishes and which dealers should consider closer to the admission into the own portfolio:

  • Interoperability, open platforms
  • Partnerships with other providers
  • Security and privacy

Among the exhibitors, solutions and startups at the IFA even less well-known that are in line with the customer's wishes will be noticed:

Coqon is a wireless solution that is based on open standards and supports over 80 of its own products, Sonos, Netatmo, Philips Hue and IFTTT, as well as voice control. The servers are in Germany. Coqon DataLock encrypts the data according to banking standard.

The components of Aqara smart home devices control and automate home appliances, regulate temperature and irrigation, and monitor indoor and outdoor environment. Aqara devices use end-to-end encryption, for example for connecting to the iPhone. All HomeKit-enabled devices are compatible with each other.

The core product of Mediola is the software AIO Creator Neo, with which you can design your individual control app and thus network and control more than 1,500 devices from around 100 brands. Various standards are brought together through interface technologies at the operating level in the app.

K1 is a wireless, integrated smart home and security gateway from Smanos. It is compatible with Nest Thermostat, Amazon Echo, Google Assistant and Philips Hue and allows you to control other smart home devices in one app.

Conrad Connect is an IoT platform that connects and controls thousands of smart devices and digital services from more than 50 different manufacturers. The servers are in Western Europe. The data connections are encrypted. Data can be deleted or a data transfer stopped.

H2 Smart Home by Eesy-innovation allows you to control and monitor a variety of solutions while helping to connect devices that are not yet smart. Encryption and privacy are explicitly mentioned as important components.

Naon by PipesBox GmbH supports data analysis in the smart home and in the development of individual applications for networked devices The Naon smart living app requires no new hardware, but can be used with existing smart devices, such as with lighting, cameras or alarm systems.
